Honors College | Community Time Fund
Westminster’s new Community Time initiative reserves a 75-minute block of time every Tuesday and Thursday at noon during which no classes meet on campus. This effort has unleashed innovative programming that has brought our community together to learn, socialize, and have fun. The Honors College has sponsored successful Community Time events like Speed Networking with Honors Alums, Pizza with Professors, and a campus-wide digital detox day, where faculty, staff, and students lock up their cell phones in Nunemaker for the day to prompt reflections on their relationship with technology.
Bringing students, faculty, staff, and alums together in shared spaces is key to rebuilding the sense of community and ongoing traditions disrupted by COVID-19. The Community Time fund will spur more innovation around events that bring us all together–one of the defining features of a Westminster education–with a focus on programming that aligns with the university’s commitments to wellness, career confidence, leadership, and outdoor learning.
As always, the Honors College has instituted fun challenges to encourage giving! An Honors Alums “Battle of the Classes” challenge will track donors from even and odd Honors graduating classes to see which group is more generous – a handful of names will be drawn from the winning set of classes for a special dinner in Nunemaker hosted by the Honors deans. Some Honors College parents have challenged fellow Honors parents to give $2,500 collectively and they will double their original gift in that amount. And Honors Dean Richard Badenhausen will do a “Goat Yoga” session if the Honors College reaches its overall goal of $25,000!
